The Sonos II processor came about from a failed attempt to design a sound card and processing software for use with the Linux operating system. The rescued code was modified to run on the Windows operating system.
The software consists of a server that performs the processing and a client that can remotely control the operation of the server.
The processor featured a new five band multiband section with a cross coupled dual band final limiter. The five band section in retrospect had problems with sibilant sources and the dual band limiter needed to be driven very hard to get it loud enough.
Sonos II has a built in stereo multiplex encoder. This will only work with suitable 192kHz sound cards.
Also Sonos II has the capability of streaming to a Shoutcast/Icecast server.
Sonos II is no longer being developed and is released as freeware.
