The central feature of Sonos III is the five band MBL5 audio compressor limiter.MBL5 is derived from the original MBL4 processor with many improvements.
Sonos III can be used for FM broadcasting and/or streaming to Shoutcast/ Icecast web radio servers. This is achieved through the use of a common multiband section with dual final limiters.
Sonos III includes a stereo multiplex encoder and an RDS/RBDS encoder for FM broadcasting.
Sonos III can be used for linking via the internet to one or more remote transmitter sites using the built in 'STL' function. For this purpose Sonos III splits the processing between a server program (Sonos III Server) and a client program.(Sonos III Client). The 'STL' function is bi-directional which allows it to be used for outside broadcasts.
The Sonos III programs need a CPU with SSE/SSE2 instuction set capability.A utility that detects whether a CPU has such capability can be downloaded here.
